Foods to Avoid During Cancer Treatment

While CyberKnife is one of the most non-invasive, convenient cancer treatments on the market, it’s still important to take good care of your body during any cancer treatment. During treatment, your body is trying to heal from a dangerous and serious condition – and it’s important to provide it the support and nourishment it needs by taking good, conscientious care of it. A major component to health in our lives is food, and even though CyberKnife doesn’t impose diet restrictions in the same way that other cancer treatments do, it’s still a good idea to carefully watch what you eat during treatment.

Eating Right During Cancer Treatment

While some cancer treatments cause side-effects like a depressed immune system or nausea that necessitate a restricted diet, CyberKnife rarely comes with these side effects. That said, it’s still a good idea to monitor diet during treatment. In general, you should follow these guidelines during treatment:

  • Avoid Raw, Unpasteurized, or Uncooked Animal Products: While CyberKnife won’t depress your immune system in the same way chemotherapy can, it’s still best to stay as healthy as possible during treatment. This means avoiding any uncooked, undercooked, raw, or unpasteurized animal products like cured meats, undercooked beef, unpasteurized milk or cheese, or undercooked eggs, as these all carry the risk of foodborne illness.
  • Wash Foods: Even when cooking or eating fruits and vegetables, it’s very important to thoroughly wash them. This removes dirt, germs, and contaminants that may harm you or your immune system.
  • Cook Thoroughly: Another safeguard against foodborne illness is careful, thorough cooking. When done thoroughly and for long enough, the process of cooking food kills any bacteria or germs in the food – so during treatment, avoid undercooked meals and opt for cooking food long enough to fully sterilize it.
