Because gynecologic cancer refers to multiple specific conditions, there is no unified staging system for all gynecologic cancers – instead, each specific cancerous condition has its own unique system for determining the stage and severity of the cancer. That said, all gynecologic cancers follow a four-stage system, where Stage I is the least severe and Stage IV is the most severe. Generally, a cancer is more severe if the initial tumor is large, if the cancer has infected lymph nodes, and if the cancer has spread (metastasized) to distant sites or organs.
