We treat almost any cancerous condition at our center, and whenever possible, we strive to use noninvasive treatment options – and our flagship offering is the revolutionary CyberKnife System.

A New Way to Treat Abdominal Cancer

Abdominal isn’t actually one form of cancer, but rather a blanket term for any cancerous condition that starts in the tissues or organs of the abdomen – and CyberKnife presents an effective treatment option for many types of abdominal cancer. Unlike of more traditional methods like surgery or chemotherapy, CyberKnife doesn’t require the use of invasive procedures or pharmaceuticals with harsh side effects. Instead, CyberKnife uses advanced medical technology to deliver high-dose radiation directly to the site of the tumor, all with sub-millimeter accuracy that protects surrounding tissues. For many patients, CyberKnife is an effective, convenient way to treat forms of abdominal cancer like:

Benefits of CyberKnife for Abdominal Cancer

Every patient is different, the right treatment for you will depend on your condition and the specifics of your case. However, CyberKnife presents a variety of benefits to patients eligible for the treatment. Some of the benefits of CyberKnife include:

  • Noninvasive Treatment: CyberKnife is a completely nonsurgical, noninvasive cancer treatment option. There are no incisions, no harsh medications, and virtually no side effects – you simply come to our Orange County cancer center, lie on the treatment couch as the CyberKnife machine delivers radiation, and walk out.
  • Precision Radiation: CyberKnife uses advanced imaging and motion tracking technology to deliver high-dose radiation with sub-millimeter accuracy, all while tracking the movement of the tumor in real time and making adjustments to keep radiation on target.
  • Improved Comfort: In the past, radiation therapy required the use of painful, uncomfortable immobility braces. But because CyberKnife uses motion-tracking technology, you simply lie down and let the machine do the work.
  • Virtually No Side Effects: With CyberKnife, most patients experience few or no side effects. There’s no incision and the tissue surrounding the tumor is protected, so the only thing affected by treatment is the tumor itself.

The CyberKnife Treatment Process

CyberKnife treatment takes place on an outpatient basis, so instead of staying in a hospital for your cancer treatment, you simply visit our radiation oncology center to receive the treatment. Every patient and condition is different, so the specifics of your treatment process will depend on your case – but for most patients, CyberKnife treatment goes like this:

  • First, we’ll bring you in for a treatment consultation or second opinion appointment. During this time, you’ll speak with a cancer expert about your diagnosis, the treatment options available to you, and whether or not CyberKnife is the best option for you.
  • If you do decide to go with CyberKnife treatment, your radiation oncologist will work with the other cancer specialists on your team to design a detailed, comprehensive treatment plan. This plan includes the overall dosage of radiation for your tumor, a schedule for delivering the dose, and any supplementary treatments or medications you may need.
  • With the plan in place, you’ll visit our cancer center to receive the radiation. While some patients may receive the entire dose of radiation in a single visit, most patients have their dose split into fractions and receive the full dose over the course of 1 to 5 visits. Each appointment will take roughly an hour, and most patients find they can go about their day as normal both before and after the appointment.
  • After receiving your final dose of radiation, we’ll schedule a follow-up appointment to assess the tumor and the efficacy of the treatment.
